Monday dawned cool and sunny. Our B&B hostess raved about how much warmer and nicer it was compared to a week earlier. We had a "full Irish breakfast" cooked by our hostess, Martina, at the luxuriously late hour of 9:00. Ham, sausage, fried eggs, pudding, toast, juice, and coffee. Ah oh, we're going to need to walk a lot if we eat like this.

The famous Cliffs of Moher are about 10 miles from our B & B in Doolin . . . uphill. We took the noon bus up to the Visitors' Center and then walked back down, about 8 miles cross country.

Walking to the bus |
The place was crowded with tourists, many of who arrived on huge buses. Another day, when we drove by the Visitors' Center on our way to Ennis by bus, Russ counted 26 buses parked in the bus lot. Others arrived in rental cars, which filled another lot. But the hillside and fields swallowed up the crowds and it was beautiful around the Visitor Center. It was even more spectacular on the cross country trek back to Doolin, as the photos show.

Note the trail in the foreground. No safety fence in Ireland! |

We didn't go out there. |

Looking back up the hill we'd just come down. |

Ready for a beer at the end of that walk! |

And a hearty fish dinner that James and I shared |
