Community in the North Country

One of the many reasons that make us happy to have our little weekend house in Cedar Key is that we are part of a real community. We share a strong value for the environment that supports the local fishing economy and makes it a grand place to live. We value our National Wildlife Refuges, which protect the environment that is so critical to us. We have our own pre-K to 12 school, and many of us volunteer there. Our artist community is strong. Our community library is our gathering place.

One of the many reasons that make us happy to come to this little under developed corner of the Adirondacks is that we are part of a real community. Russ writes books about it and produced a guide to walking around the lake for the Hospital Foundation's Wellness program.

Today we went to a Community Brainstorming Session. A small church with waterfront location in Cranberry Lake needs to close because the congregation has gotten too small to sustain it. Almost 75 people went to figure out how to keep it as a community asset.

Tonight we went to a jam session that was rained out last night. Well, it wasn't really rained out, but the rain was so hard that we whimped out. Rerun tonight was wonderful!
