Overnight rain sounded on the roof of our sleeping porch all night. It didn't rain in and we were cozy under our comforter in the outdoors room. In the morning, the rain was steady, although let up just long enough for Stela's morning walk.
The three of us walked part-way around the lake, two with rain jackets and the third with her impermeable fur coat.
In the afternoon, Stela took to her crate, happy with a peanut-butter bone for company and time for a long nap. We took off cross country to Ogdensburg to surprise Cousin Charlene at her 75th Birthday Party . . . our 3rd birthday party of this trip to Star Lake :) The trip was lovely, coming down out of the Adirondack Park and across farmlands with dairy cows in large barns and Amish farms with buggies and clothes lines, but fewer animals.
We were pleased that Cousin Charlene's home was bright and decorated for her party. There are more residents who, like she, are verbal and interactive. The last time we went, she seemed to be the only one who talked and dealt with the caregivers one-on-one. The caregivers are great. They clearly are crazy about her and give her lots of attention. Still, she is not in good health and was in pain today, complaining gently that her left leg was uncomfortable. All the residents had gifts for her. Everyone was enjoying the afternoon coffee and donuts at the party.
We headed back to Star Lake through thunder storms, not too bad. The plan had been to go to a jam session tonight but the thunder storms won the day. We hope Don is still willing to jam tomorrow. e claims to know 3,000 bluegrass songs and we are still trying to find one that he doesn't know! Wishing Lisa and Nancy and Jim and Marci were here, and all our Cedar Key jam sessions friends.

Back in 2010, the Heuvelton Cheese House was making marvelous Amish cheese. It has since closed and the building is now a tech firm. Too bad. | | |
